Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a play-based curriculum that is mandatory for all early years providers and schools in Ofsted registered settings that cater to young children from birth until the end of the academic year in which they turn five.

We use the EYFS as a guide when caring for our child and supporting their learning and development. We plan activities and evaluate our children's progress based on seven areas of learning, which include three prime areas (Personal, social and emotional development, Physical development, and Communication and language) and four specific areas (Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, and Expressive arts and design). Our team in the nursery focus on the prime areas for younger children and as they develop, the support is expanded to include the specific areas. The support provided is tailored to each child's level of development and progress.

The aim of the EYFS is to help children achieve the following outcomes: Staying safe, Being healthy, Enjoying and achieving, Making a positive contribution, and Sustaining a positive wellbeing. This also ensures that our nursery keeps or children safe and helps them to thrive, form strong relationships, and develop a love for learning.

We also incorporate the Curiosity Approach into our teaching methods to encourage children to be more inquisitive and curious about the world around them. Our approach prioritises exploration, creativity, and discovery in the learning process, fostering a sense of wonder and joy in children's education. By embracing the Curiosity Approach, we aim to cultivate a lifelong love of learning in our young students while supporting their overall growth and development.

Learning Journey

We utilise an Online Learning Journey system at our nursery, providing you access to observations of your child's learning and activities during their time with us. When you first enrol your child, their Key Person will ask for "starting points" in your child's learning to understand their current abilities, interests and what they already enjoy doing and playing with. This information is used to personalise the start of their learning journey at our nursery, building on what they have already achieved.

When your child finishes their time at our nursery, we provide you with a complete copy of their Online Learning Journey, as a keepsake and a record of their time with us.

Planning & Observations

We start our planning process by consulting with you to understand where your child's learning is currently at, and what their interests and hobbies are. We then observe your child while they play to gain insight into their current interests, development, and learning style. We take detailed notes during our observations and also discuss with you to learn more about your child's abilities, likes and dislikes, and activities they enjoy at home.

With this information, we can then create a personalised plan of activities that align with your child's current interests and learning needs, that will support their growth and development.
